"Need a Church Like This"
What do we really need?
- Apparently, there’s a hierarchy of needs.
- I have my own hierarchy - “I’ve discovered I can turn almost anything I really want into something I ‘need.’”
- What does our community need?
What does a NEEDED church look like?
ACTS 2 (NIV)
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
A church like this:

- Shares ordinary life.
- Builds relationships with its neighbors.
- Makes the love of Jesus easier to see.
Who needs whom?
Our community needs a church that loves like Jesus. The church needs its community to show us where that love is needed.
What can I do this week?
Notice one need. Meet it with love.
Ask someone: “What would make your week a little lighter?”
Then listen - and do one thing you can.

What do we really need?
We all have things we think we need.
More time. More money. Better relationships. A little less stress. Maybe just a decent night’s sleep.
But some of our deepest needs are harder to name: connection, purpose, belonging, love, and hope.
This fall at Davison Free Methodist Church, we’re starting a new series called NEEDED. Together, we’ll explore what Jesus has to say about what we need—and what our families, neighborhoods, and community might need from us.
And you don’t need to be a church expert to join the conversation.
More time. More money. Better relationships. A little less stress. Maybe just a decent night’s sleep.

We’ll start by asking whether a church can be more than a place people attend—and become a community that makes life better for the people around it.

Who are the people right around us?
Jesus challenges us to notice, love, and move toward our neighbors—even when they’re different from us.
NEED LESS RELIGION (Sept. 27)
What if faith wasn’t supposed to make life harder?
Sometimes religion creates barriers that Jesus never intended. We’ll explore a simple idea from the early church: “We should not make it difficult” for people who are turning toward God.
NEED MORE LOVE (Oct. 4)
Love is more than something we say.
What would happen if our faith became visible through practical, generous, everyday acts of love?
NEED EVERY GENERATION (Oct. 11)
We need each other. Kids. Teenagers. Young adults. Parents. Empty nesters. Grandparents. We believe life is richer when generations don't simply attend the same church, but know, encourage, learn from, and invest in one another.

Because we can't do this on our own.
We’ll finish by turning the question around. Before asking what our community needs from us, we need to recognize our own need for God—and learn what it means to depend on Jesus in everyday life.
